Matouk Bassiouny promotes Egyptian corporate and M&A lawyer Ossama Abouzaid to partner
Leading Middle Eastern and North African firm Matouk Bassiouny has announced the elevation to partner of Egyptian lawyer Ossama Abouzaid, a key figure in their Corporate and M&A team
Former Egyptian public prosecutor Ossama Abouzaid has played an integral role in advising clients on complex transactions, corporate governance, and company law matters, and is a key member of the Corporate and M&A team, said leading MENA law firm Matouk Bassiouny today as it announced Abouzaid’s promotion to partner.
“We are proud to welcome Ossama to the partnership and look forward to his continued contributions to our Corporate and M&A practice and to the firm’s ongoing growth and success,” said the firm, which was established in Cairo in 2005 and has since grown from its Egyptian roots to include offices in the UAE, Algeria, and Sudan.
Prior to his elevation from counsel to partner, Abouzaid has worked extensively on due diligence exercises and high-profile acquisition transactions across a wide range of sectors, including industrial, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, healthcare, and tourism. His experience includes advising leading private equity firms, regional investment funds, and multinational corporations on landmark investments and divestments in Egypt and across the MENA region and beyond.
Recently, Abouzaid was a key part of the team advising AfricInvest in connection with its acquisition of a minority stake in Arrow Holding, a leading HR-technology and staffing group operating through multiple subsidiaries across Africa and the Middle East.
A graduate of Cairo University, Abouzaid began his legal career by serving as a Public Prosecutor for almost four years, before joining Matouk Bassiouny in late 2017. During that time, he also attended a course for strengthening the capacity of Egyptian Public Prosecutors by the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative.
“He gained valuable experience in criminal, civil, and family law, as well as in conducting complex investigations,” shared the firm. “This background continues to enrich his legal practice and strengthens his strategic approach to client matters.”
In October, Matouk Bassiouny won National Firm of the Year for Egypt for the third time in a row (and seventh overall) at the IFLR Middle East Awards. Its team of 250 lawyers specialises in advising multinationals, corporations, financial institutions and governmental entities on all legal aspects of investing and doing business in the MENA region. Trained both locally and internationally in civil and common law systems, the firm’s lawyers are fully conversant in English, Arabic and French.
Abouzaid elevation, announced today, further expands the leading MENA firm’s partnership, following on from arbitration and competition lawyer Mohamed Samy becoming a partner in August 2025, and the return to the firm of in-house counsel Khalid Diaa as a partner in its Corporate and M&A practice group in June 2025.
