Corporate, tax, and private wealth lawyer Antish Maroam to lead new Spencer West office in Mauritius
International law firm Spencer West has strengthened its growing African footprint and cross-jurisdictional capabilities while expanding its international reach by collaborating with corporate and tax barrister Antish Maroam to launch a new office
Spencer West is a law firm that creates a flexible and collaborative environment and “strongly appeals to the next generation of legal talent”, says dual-qualified barrister Antish Maroam, who has recently been announced as the founder and Managing Partner of a new Spencer West office launched in Mauritius.
“Mauritius has a clear gap for a model that allows lawyers to build their own practices while remaining part of an international firm,” says Antish, who advises on corporate, tax, and private wealth matters, with a strong focus on tax structuring for international clients. “The entrepreneurial mindset, the flexibility, and the drive for growth strongly align with my own ambitions, and encourage us to grow our team.”
Mauritius as a jurisdiction continues to attract international businesses and investors due to strong connections with African markets, an extensive double tax treaty network, and a robust legal framework for funds and estate planning.
“We are thrilled to welcome Antish and his hugely capable team to the Spencer West community,” said Spencer West global Managing Partner Antoine West, noting that Mauritius complements the firm’s growing international capability. “This is a terrific development for our firm, and improves our coverage in the region. Our Mauritius office will work alongside our Kenya, South Africa, and Rwanda offices, together with our offices worldwide, to deliver strong outcomes for clients.”
Antish has been called to the bar in both Mauritius and England and Wales, and is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). He was previously a partner at Mauritius-based Celerity Chambers, and he has also been a Senior Associate at global firms PWC and Eversheds Sutherlands during his career.
“I already had the pleasure to interact with my colleagues from Kenya, South Africa, Cyprus, UK and our Middle East office and it is clear that the DNA of the international firm is based on connectivity and collaboration to create opportunities for one another,” shared Maroum following the announcement. “These are very exciting times for me and my team but this is only the beginning of a great adventure.”
Last July, Spencer West collaborated with leading Rwandan business lawyer Asante Twagira
